Mazda unboxes 2024 CX-90 in US

Mazda has just unveiled the first-ever 2024 Mazda CX-90 in the United States (US), which the brand confirmed will be offered in two engine options.

We're very proud of our team’s work on CX-90, which we know is a breakthrough vehicle in its segment,” said Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) President and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Guyton.

The Mazda CX-90 is available with all-new powertrains, including the all-new e-Skyactiv G 3.3-liter, inline-six turbo engine — which the company already confirmed — that makes 340 horsepower (hp) and 501Nm of torque. This engine, according to MNAO, also is equipped with M-Hybrid Boost (a mild-hybrid system) to provide efficiency without compromising on its remarkable performance.

Mazda explained that the M-Hybrid Boost’s electric is placed between the engine and transmission, creating a smooth acceleration from a standstill, and allowing the motor to directly power CX-90 at low speed.

Also available is the new e-Skyactiv plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain. This, Mazda said, makes as much as 323hp with 501Nm of pulling power. The PHEV system consists of Mazda’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine alongside an electric motor and a 17.8-kilowatt-hour high-capacity battery.

All CX-90 powertrains are paired with an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission, specifically designed for electrified longitudinal powertrains and large platform vehicles.

The introduction of the Japanese automotive brand’s new flagship crossover sport utility vehicle, according to its American arm, represents Mazda’s all-new large platform. Vehicles built on it, like the 2024 CX-90, boast wider, longer, and more aggressive proportions that perfectly blend its high-performance appearance with world-class refinement.
