Mazda's first ever EV hits UK early next year

If there is ever one company that takes their design credo seriously, it would be Mazda. Their philosophy of Jinbai Ittai, or "oneness between horse and rider" is seen through countless iterations throughout their model lineup over the years. The unmistakable and undeniable connection between car and driver is what makes every Mazda vehicle so unique.

The latest vehicle to epitomize this philosophy is the  Mazda MX-30. Mazda’s first fully-electric production vehicle is slated to arrive in the UK early 2021

In line with the release of the new Mazda MX-30 in the British Isles, the company will also launch the latest version of the MyMazda app by the end of this year. With the update, Mazda plans to add functions that are only possible with an electric vehicle, such as sending notifications if a driver forgets to plug in the charging cable, managing charging using a timer, and monitoring the charge progress and a range indicator. MyMazda app also allows the remote controlling of air-conditioning settings.

In addition to the aforementioned latest upgrades, the MyMazda app will also enable MX-30 drivers to locate their nearest charging station. Drivers will also be able to benefit from accessing real-time information on charge point availability.

"We live in a digital world, and whether you’re remotely defrosting your car from bed in the morning, checking to see if it’s locked at night or checking the range for the journey ahead, the latest development of the MyMazda app will help bring even more convenience for MX-30 drivers and will seamlessly integrate into modern lifestyles," shares Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director at Mazda UK.

"Part of Mazda’s multi-solution approach to efficient vehicles, the launch of our first pure electric car is a milestone moment for the brand and a landmark moment for our dealers and customers here in the UK.”

The newest iteration of the Mazda MX-30 is the first vehicle in the brand's history to feature touchscreen climate control, with the design goal of occupants being ‘enveloped in openness.' This can be accessed via a 7-inch touchscreen display at the front of the console—the system serves as a touchscreen air-conditioning control panel that adjusts temperature, air flow and seat heating throughout the interior.

To further enhance the cabin environment, the new Mazda MX-30 is equipped with a choice of two high quality sound systems – the standard Mazda audio system or a Bose premium sound system that has 12 speakers scattered throughout the cabin. Standard interior equipment includes a windscreen projecting heads-up display, 8-way electronically adjustable drivers’ seat, a color 7-inch TFT dial display, a leather wrapped steering wheel and chrome trim accents.

There are four available body color options for the Mazda MX-30, namely Ceramic Metallic, Polymetal Grey Metallic, a three-tone Ceramic Metallic option which will set you back £950 (Php 60,000) or the three-tone Soul Red Crystal Metallic, which costs £1,250 (Php 78,000) extra.

"An electric car that delivers the kind of traditional driver engagement you’d expect from a Mazda matched to new levels of digital connection, the Mazda MX-30 is a multi-level example of car and driver as one," shares Mazda in their press release.

Pricing is yet to be announced for the vehicle, and its availability outside the UK is unknown, but we'll be sure to update you as soon as possible.
