McLaren looks back at a fruitful decade, bares plans for global expansion
British luxury sports car manufacturer McLaren Automotive celebrates 10 fruitful years and looks to further expand its operations in the next decade.
As part of the company’s second-decade Horizon2030 business plan, McLaren Automotive will increase its presence in markets outside of Europe starting with its 100th retail store in China.
“In just 10 short years we, together with our dedicated retailer network, have grown from our first retailer in London to opening our 100th retailer which will be in China later this year, a market which has been growing very strongly and winning many fans,” said McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt.
Since the automaker launched its first global retailer in London, McLaren Automotive has expanded its retail presence in over 40 countries and has launched several iconic models like the 720S, the 675LT, the P1TM, and the GT. Other notable additions to McLaren’s growing stable include ultra-exclusive Ultimate models: the McLaren Senna, Speedtail, and the Elva roadster.
In its first 10 years, McLaren Automotive also opened its bespoke division, the McLaren Special Operations (MSO). The automaker’s in-house customization team allows supercar owners to personalize their McLarens.
McLaren Automotive also opened a second facility in its first decade — the McLaren Composites Technology Centre (MCTC) — which is situated in Yorkshire. The MCTC facility is responsible for the brand’s low-weight and well-packaged carbon fiber architecture used in the all-new series hybrid Artura supercar.
“It is also fitting given the very global nature of our company and ambitions and our second decade is an intensely exciting and innovative one not only for McLaren but also for the wider automotive world. As we embrace a future of electrification with the all-new and lightweight McLaren Artura, we’ll continue to push the boundaries in the pursuit of creating the world’s finest drivers’ cars,” Flewitt adds.
