McLaren's Next Hypercar Will Be Its Fastest Car Ever
McLaren Automotive next 'Hyper-GT,' codenamed BP23, will be the fastest car the British carmaker has ever made "with the capability to exceed the 243mph (391 kph) peak speed of the legendary McLaren F1 road car." McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt made the announcement at the Geneva Motor Show press and added that a public reveal of the car can be expected this year.
Like the McLaren F1, the next addition to the McLaren Ultimate Series will have a three-seat cockpit design with a central driving position, yet unlike the F1, the BP23 will have an internal combustion engine-electric hybrid powertrain.
If you're planning to buy one, you're out of luck because all 106 units of the 'Hyper-GT' have already been spoken for, with its production due to begin by the year-end of 2019. With McLaren Special Operations, the division of McLaren Automotive responsible for bespoke customer commissions, each unit will be personalized to each owner's taste.
Unlike the alphanumerical nomenclatures used by the McLaren Sports Series and Super Series, the BP23 will have an as-yet unannounced name and this, together with the car's maximum possible speed, will be disclosed nearer to the car’s reveal.
And if you're curious why only a specific figure of 106 units will be produced and not some rounded-off figure like 100 or 110, that's because it's the same number of units of the McLaren F1 road car that were sold.
