From rappers to Hollywood A-listers, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been more than just a capable vehicle but a status symbol for people who want to be associated with the elegance and luxury evoked by the sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Lucky for Filipino car buyers looking to experience what’s it like to ride on one of the German automotive brand’s most iconic nameplates, Mercedes-Benz Philippines is offering the G-Class in two variants, namely the G 350 d and the G 500 AMG Line.
Join us to see which of them best suits your budget and your motoring needs.
From the outside, both Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUVs might look alike. On that note, the base model sports some unique exterior appointments enough to make people look. These include LED high-performance lights flanking its three-louver design radiator grille.
It also has side running boards, heated exterior mirrors, and a set of 19-inch five-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.
The range-topping variant, on the other hand, packs a suite of AMG Line trims and AMG body styling. Also noticeable are its flared wheel arches that house 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light alloy wheels. At the rear is a sports exhaust system that elevates the look of the G 500 AMG Line trim.
Inside the base variant G 350 d are leather seats, rubber floormats, and a widescreen cockpit with two 12.3-inch displays.
Would-be owners can also expect Mercedes-Benz’s Thermotronic automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and door sill panels with “Mercedes-Benz” lettering.
The same set of interior amenities can be found with the G 500 AMG Line. This grade, however, adds Designo seatbelts in red and AMG floormats, to name a few.
Powering the Mercedes-Benz G-Class G 350 d is a 3.0-liter engine mated to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. This setup makes 286 horsepower (hp) and 600Nm of torque.
For those who want to push the envelope, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class G 500 AMG Line packs a more powerful 4.0-liter engine mated to the same nine-speed automatic transmission and puts out as much as 422 horses with 610Nm of raw torque.
In terms of safety, both the Mercedes-Benz G-Class G 350 d and the G 500 AMG Line share a similar suite of features. These include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR), Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR), Active Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist (BAS), to name a few.
Per the automaker’s website, pricing for both variants is available upon request.
