The local arm of European luxury brand Mercedes-Benz—under Auto Nation Group (ANG)—has finally brought to local roads their latest model offering, the new GLA.
The latest introduction from Mercedes-Benz Philippines, the second vehicle reveal made via online launch, is the second-generation of the model for the German marque.
The latest vehicle on retail came following the launch of the all-new GLB in the middle of August this year and the third online reveal for Mercedes-Benz Philippines, with the BGC showroom inauguration being the first.
The entry-level among the Mercedes-Benz SUVs, the new GLA sports the Modular Front Architecture (MFA).
During the virtual reveal, ANG Senior Manager for Product Planning Benjie Bautista said that the new GLA is said to meet the needs of “young and young at heart executives and families as well as growing families."
“While we are targeting these, the new GLA is for everyone, contrary to the belief it is only for the old and rich,” Bautista said.
ANG Sales and Marketing Assistant Vice President Rhomel Franco also said that aside from the abovementioned, one part of their target market is the female market, as it is positioned in between the segments of compact cars and SUVs.
While it is more designed as a daily-driven vehicle, it exudes the same signature design as with the G-Class, yielding more on urban jungle vibe. The new Mercedes-Benz GLA has outgrown its predecessor by more than ten centimeters—now standing at 1611 millimeters (1616 with roof rails).
The GLA shows it athletic stance starting from the 19-inch five twin-spoke alloys diamond radiator grille with pins in chrome, black roof liner and polished aluminum roof rails, exclusively available on the GLA 200 AMG variant. This is complemented by the buff shoulders on the side as well as the Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Comfort is always the main priority and the new Mercedes-Benz GLA ensures passenger have a more relaxed ride inside. The seating position for front occupants is more SUV-like, as its position is higher and more upright compared to the previous-generation.
With an above-par crossover look, it has storage space to match as well. The rear seat backrest can split 40:20:40, with each section folding down individually. In addition, The luggage area has an adjustable floor—providing more space when necessary. This can also serve as additional stowage for light and thin cargo.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLA now joins the latest models equipped with Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). Occupants inside the new GLA may now opt to access their infotainment system either through the seven-inch instrument or via code word “Hey Mercedes”. The MBUX is also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capable.
Another highlight is the comprehensive touch operation concept – the combination of a touchscreen, touchpad on the center console and touch control buttons in the steering wheel. In addition to the intuitive operating experience, less driver distraction is another advantage.
Powering the new Mercedes-Benz GLA is a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that can deliver 163 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Making it fuel-efficient is a 7G dual-clutch automatic transmission with cruise control and standard with front-wheel drive.
It also has on-the-fly driving modes called Dynamic Select that offers ”ECO”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, and "Individual." Perfect for heavy traffic situations, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA has an ECO Start/Stop system that automatically shuts off the engine when you're at stoplights or idling—and drivers can easily disable it, should they prefer to.
Among the safety features that the new GLA is fitted with are Active Brake Assist, Attention Assist. And further, the GLA 200 AMG Line is also packed with additional tech like the Light and Sight Package, Parking Package (which consists of Active Parking Assist with reversing camera, providing support when parking and maneuvering) and Tire Pressure Loss Warning System monitors the inflation pressure of all four tires while driving.
Priced at P3.29 million, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA is now available at local dealerships in Edsa Greenhills, Bonifacio Global City, Alabang and Cebu City. Or you may visit www.mercedes-benz.ph/GLA to know more.
