Mercedes-Benz has unwrapped the new GLA sport utility vehicle (SUV) for the United States (US) market, which boasts a total of 234 horsepower (hp).
According to the German carmaker, the updated Mercedes-Benz GLA is equipped with a 2.0-liter powerplant and a belt-driven starter-generator with a 48-volt onboard power supply. The internal combustion engine (ICE) makes 221 horses while the generator adds 13hp more.
Maximum torque is at 349 Newton meters.
On top of making the Mercedes-Benz GLA more agile, this hybrid setup enables coasting with the ICE switched off and provides smoother, quieter engine starting.
Further, the hybrid system recuperates energy to supply the 12-volt onboard network and 48-volt battery with electrical energy during braking and acceleration.
Building on its capable powertrain setup, the new Mercedes-Benz GLA wears exterior appointments that reflect its powerful character.
At the front, you have a new radiator grille with vertical louvers and horizontal fin, a redesigned bumper with visual under guard protection, and a hood with discreet power domes.
Added to this is the new modern light signature in the standard LED High-Performance headlights and LED taillights. Mercedes-Benz expands the range of individualization options for the new GLA with new Starling Blue Metallic paint and three additional wheel designs in 18 and 20-inch sizes.
Inside, the updated Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with seats that can be finished in a wide range of premium upholstery, a steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather, and two 10.25-inch screens.
The digital instrument cluster can be personalized using the available Classic, Sporty, and Discreet modes; while the infotainment system boasts the latest generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience multimedia system. It now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
For further connectivity, the US-spec Mercedes-Benz GLA receives an additional USB-C port and increased USB charging power. All USB ports are also now illuminated.
Those opting for the available Burmester surround sound system can enjoy an enhanced auditory experience with the new Dolby Atmos immersive audio experience.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV will arrive in US dealerships in late 2023.
