Mercedes-Benz looks to expand its sub-brand’s product portfolio through the Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS, a luxurious all-electric SUV based on the modular architecture for luxury- and executive-class EVs.

The Concept EQS builds upon the Mercedes-Maybach brand’s reputation for being an icon of state-of-the-art technology, handcrafted precision, and exclusivity. The near-production one-off unit showcases features unique to the brand and lives up to Wilhelm and Karl Maybach’s raison d'être of creating cars that are “the very best of the very best.”

From a distance, the Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS stuns with its elaborate two-tone paint finish that complements its dynamic silhouette. Unmistakable is the continuous transitions that characterize its luxurious seamless design.

At the front are LED lights with individual diamond blocks framed with a fine-knit mesh of the Maybach emblem. Intricate attention to detail is reflected on the chrome-plated vertical Maybach pinstripes with a three-dimensional effect and innovative Black Panel technology. Similar, chrome-plated, filigree louvers are also found on the air intake in the bumper and below the license plate holder in the bumper at the rear.

Not to be missed is the classic Maybach lettering on the front hood as well as the upright Mercedes star and the longitudinal chrome-plated trim strip in the center of the SUV’s bonnet.

“With the Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS, we’re transforming the brand into an electric future after 100 years. The futuristic design consists of an emotional integration of surfaces and shapes. The front, with its progressive Maybach grille, follows the principle of integration and gives the brand a completely new appearance. In conjunction with the new style aerodynamic SUV proportions, we’re completely redefining the luxury SUV of the future,” explained Daimler Group Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener.

Inside, the Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS offers a lounge-like cabin with forward-looking amenities that separate the Mercedes-Maybach marque from the rest. Taking center stage is the MBUX Hyperscreen with display styles and content specific to the Maybach brand.

“The Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS represents the transformation of the tradition-rich luxury brand into a more progressive, all-electric future. Like every Maybach, it stands for sophisticated luxury in all its facets. The near-production concept car represents proof that state-of-the-art electric drive technology and pioneering infotainment with the MBUX Hyperscreen combine perfectly with hallmark Maybach craftsmanship and an exquisite interior. This passionate combination of meticulously perfected details creates a unique automotive luxury experience. With the future all-electric SUV series model, we’re extending our leadership aspirations in the high-end segment to the area of electric mobility, too,” explained Mercedes-Benz AG Head of Top End Vehicle Group and Mercedes-AMG GmbH Chairman of the Board of Management Philipp Schiemer.

Surrounding the passengers are newly designed door panels with floating armrests and controls with the appearance of elegant sideboards. Rose gold accents as well as indirect and direct ambient lighting also elevate the interior’s sophisticated appeal. And oh, there’s also faux fur on the flooring of the Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS.

“Many of our Mercedes-Maybach customers are digitally connected to a high degree and place the highest demands on our digital solutions. They also expect the brand of their choice to stand up for sustainable values and take responsibility for the environment. The Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS fulfills all these points and embodies sophisticated luxury in a more progressive way: the all-electric powertrain not only makes consistently sustainable mobility possible but also enables a new level of calm and relaxation for passengers,” said Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG Member of the Board, Britta Seeger.
