MG Philippines has expanded its lineup with the introduction of the HS sport utility vehicle (SUV), which spearheads the local distributor's 2022 product launch calendar.
“The MG HS is the latest global MG model to join MG Philippines' growing stable of vehicles, offering discerning motorists a modern, feature-laden, safe, and value-rich SUV, steeped in MG’s rich British heritage that spans nearly a century,” The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI) said in a statement.
Unlike some local automotive brands, MG Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Alberto Arcilla is not hiding the fact that the vehicle is produced by the Shanghai-based SAIC Motor.
“Our role as distributor of MG in the Philippines is to show the convergence of all that is good about the brand. The brand heritage of MG, which has its British roots; the technology and manufacturing capacity of the manufacturer SAIC; and the service that we give to Filipinos,” Arcilla told Carmudi Philippines.
“We are very upfront with the brand heritage and the source of the units. I think as a global brand, where the manufacturing plant is located becomes immaterial as to the quality of the product. So, we’re very confident on the MG quality and the SAIC technology is merged well to the products we offer,” he added.
Arcilla also believes that the latest offering is the “embodiment of the high standards in design, quality, technology, safety, and value” that MG Philippines aims to “perpetually uphold as a brand.”
“The launch of the MG HS this first quarter of 2022 is likewise significant because this model headlines the arrival of other modern, global, MG vehicles that we intend to launch and reveal later on throughout the year. We at MG Philippines are primed for a very eventful 2022 and begin so with the HS—the vehicles that invite all to aim higher and make the elevated choice when considering a new car purchase.”
Powering the 2022 MG HS is a turbocharged 1.5-liter double overhead cam gasoline engine that can deliver up to 167 horses and 250Nm of torque. The power mill is paired to a seven-speed double-clutch sportronic transmission.
Marketed to young families and professionals, the five-seater crossover sports swooping body lines complemented by the brand’s signature Stardust grille pattern flanked with nine-crystal lighting units and powerful LED headlights with sequential turn light functionality. Aside from that, the new MG HS sits on 18-inch Diamond Cut alloy wheels.
The interior of MG Philippines’ latest offering exudes a very athletic and elegant vibe, thanks to its flat-bottom steering wheel, electronically-adjusted bucket seats, black leather with red stitching, large panoramic Stargazer sunroof, 12.3-inch Virtual Driver Information Center and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Surprisingly, the infotainment system is compatible with both Apple Carplay and Android Auto, which is not present in some vehicles within the category.
It also comes with an ambient lighting system that allows users to change the cabin’s interior lighting color.
Further, 2022 MG HS is fitted with driver assistive technologies such as blind spot detection system, tire pressure monitoring system, push start-stop functionality, electronic parking brake with auto hold.
Moreover, the vehicle offers a “Super Sport '' mode option for a more exhilarating driving experience.

Furthermore, MG Philippines announced that the latest product has an introductory price of P1,158,888 for MG HS SUV Alpha, and P1,208,888 for the Trophy variety.
