According to Lontoc, the use of electric vehicles is one of the rescue measures that strike balance towards the country’s long-term path to economic recovery while lessening environmental and climate impacts.
"Electric or hybrid vehicles are efficient as it converts energy to power these vehicles with no carbon emissions," Lontoc said.
In addition, she also said as the transportation department pushes for a sustainable strategy that supports the mobility of transport stakeholders and the environment, mobility should not only be centered on vehicles as it must also involve other forms of options.
"The DOTr sees this opportunity to harness sustainability and mobility by promoting active transport through cycling and walking, walkway concourses, and efficient traffic control for easier access to work and goods, while minimizing the social and environmental costs," Lontoc explained.
Further, the transport official noted that the government supports sustainability that heavily favors the environment, economies, and every member of society — citing the importance of partnership between the private sector and other stakeholders.
