Mercedes-Benz PH is practically a staple at Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) events, and their automotive spectacles never fail to impress. Even when MIAS decided to move their event online for this year, the German luxury brand still manages to bring the house down, so to speak.
For MIAS Wired, dubbed the first online car show in the country and in the region, MB PH brought in the GLB and GLA SUVs to delight the event’s online viewers.
Luxury is a given when it comes to the vehicles made by the Three-Pointed Star, but the GLB adds some intense versatility to the mix. Beefy proportions, an off-road oriented design, and an optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive alludes to the fact that the GLB serves up more than just the upscale amenities that the German marque is known for.
Speaking of versatility—powerful and efficient four-cylinder engines, advanced driving assistance systems, the highly intuitive and responsive MBUX infotainment system, plus the comprehensive convenience control ENERGIZING Comfort—all combine to give the new GLB has all the strengths of the current compact-class generation from Mercedes-Benz.
At 2829mm, the GLB has 10mm more wheelbase than the new B-Class. The headroom in the first seat row is 1035mm—the most in its segment. At 967mm the effective legroom in the rear of the five-seater is at an especially comfortable level.
“The GLB is the first of its kind to redefine space so generously,” said Benjie Bautista, Product Planning and Dev’t Senior Manager at Auto Nation Group, MB’s official local distributor. “At all times, (it) puts you in a position to do whatever you feel like.”
“A grand design for those who have big plans,” Bautista added.
The five-seater GLB’s load compartment capacity of 560 to 1755 liters match those of an estate vehicle. As an option, the second seat row can be adjusted lengthwise and as standard the inclination of the backrests is adjustable in several stages. This enables the load compartment to grow by up to 179 liters.
“As the new member of the ever-growing SUV family, the GLB adapts to the iconic ‘G’ DNA, and is poised to continue its undying heritage and success story,” Bautista said, who went on to name the vehicle’s noteworthy standard features including the exterior’s LED high performance headlights, SUV-inspired LED lights, and 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light alloy wheels, to the interior’s active park assist, carbon structure trims, touchpad controls, and MBUX touchscreen with voice command “Hey Mercedes” functionality.
Designed primarily as a family car, the GLB boasts plenty of child-friendly safety features including four for-child seats with ISOFIX and TOP-Tether attachment points, seven airbags, and others.
Powering the locally available GLB is a powerful CAMTRONIC engine with NANOSLIDE technology with 163hp and 250Nm of torque. This is paired to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
Pricing for the Mercedes-Benz GLB starts at PHP3.79 million.
MB PH also has entry-level luxury car buyers in mind with the new GLA, the entry point into the Mercedes-Benz SUV family.
The GLA is equipped with the latest driver assistance systems and thus offers the highest level of active safety in the compact segment. To name a few, the GLA has cornering assist, emergency-lane assist, vehicle-exit warning and an alert system that alerts the driver if pedestrians are on or close to zebra crossings.
MB PH’s video presentation for the GLA takes note of the following features:
The Mercedes-Benz is propelled by the same powertrain system in the GLB. Although a tad shorter than the model it replaces, the new GLA is more spacious interior-wise.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA has a PHP2.79 to 3.09 million price range.
