Sixty years ago, John Cooper, owner of the Cooper Car Company, discovered that the Mini possessed sporting potential.
So to celebrate the race and rally wins of Cooper-tuned Minis, the British auto marque rolled out the Mini Anniversary Edition.
The special edition model aims to be a tribute to Mini's sporting credentials, as well as John Cooper's successes in Formula 1 in 1959 and 1960.
Available as three-door in the Cooper, Cooper S, John Cooper Works (JCW) (below) trims, only 740 units of the car will be made.
The Mini Anniversary Edition is powered by the same two-liter turbo engine from the Mini JCW. The engine produces 228hp, which can propel the hot hatchback to 246kph, and zero to 100kph on just over six seconds.
As for transmission, the Mini Anniversary Edition cars can be had in an automatic or manual.
The distinctive British Racing Green lives on the Anniversary Edition, while Midnight Black metallic is also available. Another shade of green called Rebel Green paints the Mini JCW Anniversary Edition.
Along with the roof, the side mirror caps, door handles, and head- and rear lights surrounds are covered in white.
Other trinkets include white hood stripes, a red accent line, and the number 74 on the doors, the starting number of the Cooper on its first successful race.
Eighteen-inch John Cooper Works wheels underpin the car, while the Cooper logo adorns the door sill trims, side scuttles, C-pillars, and the center spoke of the leather steering wheel.
More details inside the Mini Anniversary Edition includes a signature of John Cooper, a "1 of 740" note, and the words "60 years of Mini Cooper - the unexpected underdog," all in the driver's door frame.
