The latest offering from the European marque “draws upon the mettle of its forebear, the third-generation Mini John Cooper Works GP,” Mini said in a statement.
Powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with Mini TwinPower Turbo technology, the John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition provides up to 231hp and 320 Nm of pulling power — to excite its driver.
Mini Asia Head Kidd Yam said that the launch was made following the overwhelming response for the Mini John Cooper Works GP that was launched in the country in October last year.
“As such, we’ve specially developed the Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition to cater (to) fans who weren’t able to get their hands on the original, but still want to own a unique piece of motorsports history. This special edition was first conceptualized in Singapore, and only five units will be available in the Philippines,” he said.
Meanwhile, Autohub Group of Companies and Mini Philippines President Willy Tee Ten said, “Mini has a longstanding history in motor racing, and the John Cooper Works range draws on this experience to bring authentic racetrack flair to the road. The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition packs on the essence of John Cooper Works, and we are very pleased to launch this highly-anticipated model here in the Philippines.”
On the outside, the Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition is colored in Racing Grey metallic for its body and a Melting Silver metallic for the roof. It also has black accents for its engine bonnet scoop, door handles and fuel lid. It is also fitted with a John Cooper Works rear spoiler and mirror caps.
For its interior, the newest offering is fitted with John Cooper Works sports seats at the front in Dinamica leather combination. The steering wheel is covered in Walknappa leather with red stitching highlights and a 3D-printed metal center marking. The metal paddle shifters manage the car’s eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.
The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition sits on 18-inch lightweight forged wheels The GP lettering is plentiful — from the inside and out. These two letters can be seen in the rear spoilers, the hubcaps, floor mats and just below the headrest. Meanwhile, the phrase “GP Inspired” is also seen as door decals and on the glossy part of the dashboard fascia.
It is equipped with a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system as well as other innovations like Park Distance Control in the front and rear, Driving Assistant package (a camera-based system that recognizes and reports speed limits), Mini Head-Up Display (displays relevant information right in the driver's line of vision), a digital high-beam assistant with adaptive LED matrix headlights, as well as collision warning and pedestrian warning systems with city braking function.
The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition is being sold at P3.99 million.
