Authorities have found a misdeclared luxury sports car during a recent physical examination at the Davao port. The vehicle in the cargo was identified as a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
In a statement, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said that the smuggled unit was discovered during a joint physical examination conducted last September 1. The operation was made in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 11-Seaport Interdiction Unit, and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
According to the bureau, the unearthing of the seized unit came following the intelligence report received from the Philippine National Police-Sasa Station.
The front end of the container carried used automobile parts but after thorough inspection, the aforementioned portions were only utilized to hide the sports car.
Further, elements of the PDEA Region 11 inspected the shipment for possibly carrying illegal drugs but a detailed examination yielded negative results.
The same statement noted that through the intelligence information given by PNP-Sasa, District Collector Atty. Erastus Austria immediately issued an alert order against the shipment.
Based on its shipping documents, the shipment arrived from Japan on August 31, 2022, and was consigned to JJCTD Import and Export Trading Corp. The bureau's estimated value of the seized luxury vehicle is around P15.308 million.
A Warrant of Seizure and Detention has been issued against the shipment for violation of Section 1400 concerning Section 1113 of Republic Act 10863 (also known as Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).
