Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has formally launched the updated version of the Xpander, now sporting a more advanced look and luxury similar to larger vehicles.
MMPC President and Chief Executive Officer Takeshi Hara said that the introduction of the refreshed iteration of the nameplate was to assert its current position of being the number-one multi-purpose vehicle in the local market.
“We have enhanced its unique selling propositions while upholding the traits that have made it the MPV that it is today. Expect a reimagined ride that will tap into your adventurous spirit and re-excite you to hit the road and go outdoors,” he said.
For its exterior, the new Mitsubishi Xpander wears a new black metallic radiator grille flanked with the T-shape headlamps and restyled daytime running lights and turn signals. It also has three-dimensional skid guards.
The vehicle’s rear tail lamps are also T-shaped to match the redesigned bumper with tailgate garnish. Apart from that, the new Mitsubishi Xpander now sits on 17-inch wheels with higher ground clearance (additional 225mm) compared to the outgoing version.
The interior showcases the brand’s “Horizontal Axis” design identity as seen in the dashboard layout. The aforementioned area is covered by soft padded materials with real stitches. The vehicle also wears a new meter cluster with dynamic opening graphics.
The new Mitsubishi Xpander comes with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports hands-free functions and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto as well as the new digital LCD air-conditioning panel.
To ensure improved convenience, the new Xpander’s front console has been converted into a larger capacity open tray while still having a 12V outlet and USB port.
The new floor console has been designed with armrests that can hold a tissue pack on the back of its lid and four 600 ml-sized bottles in the main space. Now with larger circumference, the console cupholders’ design has been reoriented sideways.
The second-row area has been fitted with two USB ports (one Type A and 1 Type C) at the back of the console. The rear air-conditioning dial and louver now also have more inviting colors and cup holders have been placed into the seat armrest.
Further, the vehicle has been configured to have more hip-width and ample room head and legroom and can fit four four-gallon water bottles or a stroller directly behind the last row.
Among the technologies seen in the new Mitsubishi Xpander are cruise control (making it the only one in the category that has such), reverse camera, electronic parking brake brake auto hold, as well as active stability control, hill start assist, and traction control that are only available on the automatic transmission options.
Powering the new Xpander is the 1.5-liter MIVEC double overhead cam, 16-valve engine that provides a peak churn of 103hp and 141Nm.
Offered in color options namely White Pearl, Graphite Gray, Black, Red, and the newest Blade Silver Metallic, the retail price of the new Mitsubishi Xpander starts at P1.03 million.
Relatedly, MMPC is reminding the public of its nationwide test drive tour starting tomorrow at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.
