Mitsubishi Motors recently debuted the refreshed Xpander in Indonesia. The all-new MPV was given a mild update with a focus on exterior and interior design as well as its “eco-friendliness.”
“Developed in the pursuit of customer needs, the Xpander series has gained popularity in the ASEAN and other regions around the globe and has grown to become one of the most important models for Mitsubishi Motors. When designing the new Xpander, we reviewed even the smallest details and evolved it into an even more active and tough model, so we hope that the new Xpander will help expand and enrich the driving experience of many customers. Through this model, we will also further grow our presence in Indonesia and strengthen local production, thereby contributing to the growth of the Indonesian economy,” commented Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) President Takao Kato.
At the front end, the facelifted Xpander gets the evolved Dynamic Shield fascia with a horizontal bumper which gives an impression of a low center of gravity. A new three-dimensional skid plate has also been adopted.
It also gets a new T-shaped headlight with fog lamps housed in the new lower bumper.
Wide and stable is the appearance of the new Xpander’s rear with a new-generation light shape and a horizontally styled rear bumper. It sports combination rear lamps that echo the design of what can be found at the front.
According to the Japanese carmaker, the higher trim levels of the updated Xpander will be fitted with 17-inch round-rim type alloy wheels that feature a robust and progressive machine-finished two-tone design.
In addition, the front overhang is extended by 75mm, the rear overhang by 45mm, and the vehicle height is increased by 15 to 20mm compared to the current model.
Indonesian car buyers can choose among Blade Silver Metallic, Quartz White Pearl, Graphite Gray Metallic, Jet Black Mica, Red Metallic, and Deep Bronze Metallic body paints.
Inside, higher variants get a horizontally sculpted instrument panel, a redesigned steering wheel, leather-wrapped (with real stitching) armrest and door trims, as well as an air-conditioning panel with a liquid crystal display.
Type-A and Type-C USB charging outlets are installed on the back of the center console for models equipped with armrests, and cup holders are newly added to the armrest of the second-row seats.
Eco-friendliness is improved by its new high-efficiency CVT that maximizes engine performance while realizing high fuel efficiency. Furthermore, an external EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system has been adopted for the Xpander’s engine to achieve low fuel consumption without compromising on the engine output performance.
The Indonesian-spec MPV also gets an electric parking brake as well as improved front strut rigidity, expanded rear shock absorber cylinder size, including front and rear high-performance valves.
The new Xpander will be exhibited at the 28th Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) on November 11. Mitsubishi said that it will be produced at Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (Bekasi, West Java) and will be rolled out in Indonesia and sequentially to other markets centering on the ASEAN region, hinting at the chance that the Philippine market could later receive the refreshed model.
