The Mitsubishi Strada (Triton in other markets) has been one of the Japanese automaker’s longest-running nameplates. The compact pickup truck has held the fort for Mitsubishi against its long-time competitors like the Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, and Toyota Hilux.
And pretty much like the aforementioned segment staples, the Mitsubishi Strada has undergone several facelifts over the years. That said, let’s look at some differences between the current-gen Strada and its predecessor.
The Mitsubishi Strada currently offered by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is powered by a 2.4-liter diesel engine mated to a variety of transmission options including a six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual.
Its predecessor had a 2.5-liter diesel mill and was previously offered in five-speed trannies.
Although now fitted with a smaller engine, it’s still capable of putting out enough power to help you accomplish your daily tasks and enjoy your weekend recreational activities.
The old Strada had a lot of curves, which is common for most pickup trucks designed in the early 2000s.
Now donning the dynamic shield front fascia, the face-lifted Mitsubishi Strada offers more angles and sharp lines which makes the compact pickup truck a lot more aggressive.
Featured in the Strada’s new look are LED DRLs and headlights with halogen fog lamps. In the same way, the rear gets a similar setup. A J-line design shortened the wheelbase and maximized the interior space.
A sportier variant, the Strada Athlete, was silently launched by Mitsubishi Philippines which adds a few black accents into the vehicle.
Inside, the face-lifted Strada followed the same design cues as its predecessor. However, it now sports a new touchscreen head unit with GPS navigation and a reverse camera.
The steering wheel also has a new design to give way to the updated controls.
