Mitsubishi, Tata, Other Companies Follow ‘Yorme’ Lead, Donate Big to PGH
Following the lead of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, Tata Motors Philippines, and at least four other entities donated to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), helping the state-owned hospital accumulate a total of over PHP32 million in donations.
Moreno, or 'Yorme,' as he is fondly called by his constituents, gave a total of PHP2.5 million, with PHP1 million coming from his talent fee from Jag Jeans and PHP 1.5 million from his endorsement for I.M. Coffee, a local coffee chain.
Other companies then followed suit, including an ambulance donation from Mitsubishi and Tata, PHP1 million each from Kenny Rogers and Seattle's Best, and PHP3 million from Jag Jeans and its sister companies.
The Manila Golf and Country Club also pledged PHP24.5 million in donations after senior member and Manila third district councilor Letlet Zarcal organized a golf tournament in Moreno's name last October 21.
"Kung makakatulong naman ako para gasgasin ko katawan ko, okay lang isosoga ko mukha ko para pakinabangan ng ibang tao," Moreno said in a video announcing his new endorsement deals.
"Sabi ko kung pu-puwede, magpadala tayo ng tatlong bata sa India o Taiwan para magkaroon ng transplant," Moreno added.
Moreno gave his talent fees to the PGH cancer ward for children.
"Sa mga bata na nanonood na may cancer, tibayan ninyo ang loob ninyo at maraming nagmamahal sa inyo," the beloved mayor said.
