The Mitsubishi Triton received a five-star rating from the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP).
Based on the 2021-2025 assessment protocol (that is made up of four categories), the pick-up truck — which will arrive in the Philippines by January 2024, garnered an overall score of 74.41 points.
Below is the breakdown of points:
The Mitsubishi Triton is also the first-ever pick-up truck that was rated under the said procedure.
“With Mitsubishi offering the abovementioned safety features, ASEAN NCAP believes that Mitsubishi places a high value on the safety of its occupants and other road users including motorcyclists. ASEAN NCAP is extremely happy that Mitsubishi has taken such actions in ensuring that all road users will benefit from this,” the ASEAN-NCAP said in a statement.
The Mitsubishi Triton variant that the assessors tested came from Thailand. It is intended for the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, and Brunei markets.
Helping the Mitsubishi Triton achieve the said score was the host of safety technologies such as the anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, and pedestrian protection technology.
It also has numerous driver-assistive technologies (which come as stand or optional fitment) like the autonomous emergency braking (for city, inter-urban, and pedestrian), lane departure warning, forward collision warning, blind spot detection for driver and passenger sides as well as auto high beam.
Further, the Japanese automaker’s pick-up truck comes with as much as seven airbags and a seat belt reminder system for all occupants.
Last August, MMPC President and Chief Executive Officer Takeshi Hara announced that the Triton — then known as the XRT Concept — will be introduced to the local market by January next year, replacing the Strada nameplate in the process.
