MMDA, stakeholders sign commitment pledge for public and private transport

MMDA Traffic Summit

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and representatives from the multi-sectoral stakeholders have agreed for the rationalization, improvement, and enhancement of public and private transportation in the National Capital Region following the signing of pledge of commitment at the last day of MMDA Traffic Summit.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are some of the traffic improvement plans that were proposed during the MMDA Traffic Summit?

Among the suggested plans include the expansion of the number coding scheme and re-implementation of the truck ban policy.
  • Who attended the event?

Among them are Department of Transportation Senior Transport Consultant Alberto Suansing, Land Transportation Office Law Enforcement Service Deputy Director Roberto Valera, Quezon City Task Force for Transport and Traffic Management officer-in-charge Dexter Cardenas, Integrated North Harbor Truckers Association President Teddy Gervacio, and transport group Pasang Masda National President Roberto Martin.
  • MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes expressed his gratitude towards the proposals laid out by the government agencies, private sector, transport groups, transport associations, and local traffic bureaus in Metro Manila.

"We will conduct a series of consultations to further improve traffic management in Metro Manila. Rest assure that we will thoroughly study the proposed solutions and we will address the concerns of the commuters and transport sector," Artes said.

In a statement, the agency shared that among the proposed traffic improvement plans are the expansion of the number coding scheme and re-implementation of the truck ban policy in preparation for the "new normal" as the metropolis eases back into Alert Level 1 for COVID-19 restrictions.

MMDA Assistant General Manager for Planning Jose Campo appealed to the partners and advocates of better traffic conditions in the metropolis for their continued support.

“The MMDA cannot do it alone; we need your help — the different government agencies, private sectors, academe, and transport organizations — in developing measures to ease congestion as well as provide better transport management in the region," Campos said.

"Your commitment will be very much appreciated and I hope this summit will mark our continued journey towards a safer, convenient, and better traffic management.”
