MMDA suspends number coding for this year’s Independence Day celebration
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be suspending the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (also known as number coding) on Monday.

On Monday, a flag raising and wreath laying ceremony will be held at the Rizal Monument in Manila and there will be a Civic-Military Parade at Quirino Grandstand.In a social media, post, the agency explained that the temporary suspension is in line for the country's celebration of Independence Day — a regular holiday in the country.
Aside from that, more alternate routes for vehicle traffic were plotted in line with the commemoration activities on the said date.
On Monday, there will be temporary road closure from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. along Roxas Boulevard from Teodoro M. Kalaw Avenue (commonly known as TM Kalaw) to P. Burgos, TM Kalaw-from Taft to Roxas Boulevard, Maria Orosa Street from TM Kalaw to P. Burgos, including Katigbak Drive, Independence Road, and South Road for the flag raising and wreath laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument and Civic-Military Parade to be held at Quirino Grandstand.
Motorists affected by the road closure are advised to take the following alternate routes:
- All vehicles southbound coming from the three bridges (Jones, Mc Arthur, Quezon) shall go to Taft Avenue to point of destination;
- All vehicles coming from United Nations Avenue westbound lane shall turn left to Roxas Boulevard to point of destination;
- All vehicles coming from Roxas Boulevard northbound lane shall turn right to United Nations Avenue to point of destination;
- All trailer trucks/heavy vehicles coming from Roxas Boulevard Northbound shall turn right to Pres. Quirino Avenue to point of destination;
- All vehicles coming from Mel Lopez Boulevard intending to utilize Roxas Boulevard shall turn left to A. Soriano Avenue or straight to Bonifacio Drive, left to P. Burgos Avenue to Finance Road to point of destination;
- All trailer trucks/heavy vehicles coming from Delpan Bridge shall turn around at Anda Circle to northbound lane of Mel Lopez Boulevard to C-3 to point of destination; and
- All vehicles coming from Gen. Luna inside Intramuros shall turn left to the eastbound lane of P. Burgos or Finance Rd. to the point of destination.
Meanwhile, Quiapo-bound motorists along Roxas Boulevard may turn right to United Nations Avenue or TM Kalaw then left turn to Taft Avenue to destination
For drivers going to the Philippine International Convention Center area, they may take Taft Avenue, right to United Nations Avenue then left to Roxas Boulevard to their destination.
Truck rerouting
To those going to North Harbor, from SLEC straight ahead to Osmeña Highway then right turn to Quirino Avenue, straight to Nagtahan Street, going to Lacson Avenue, left turn to Yuseco Street, and straight ahead to Capulong Street, then right turn or turn left to R-10 Road to destination.
Trucks coming from the Paranaque area are advised to turn right at Quirino Avenue to Nagtahan then Lacson Avenue to their destination. Trucks going to the south may also use the same route.
MMDA traffic enforcers will also be deployed to assist in traffic management, as well as tow trucks, ambulances, and vacuum trucks. Concrete and plastic barriers as well as traffic cones will be placed in key areas.
