MMDA to close EDSA-Bagong Barrio U-turn Slot on December 7
As the country braces for the holiday traffic, the U-turn slot located along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Bagong Barrio area will be added to those that have been closed to traffic starting Monday, (December 7).
Just like the rest of the U-turn slots that have been closed earlier, the move will be made in line with the Department of Transportation (DOTr)’s EDSA Busway project.
To avoid confusion and help motorists get on their way, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced the following detour routes:
- Northbound motorists heading southbound may take the Monumento Circle.
- Those coming from Quezon City may also take Balintawak Cloverleaf.
To note, the innermost lane of EDSA, where all U-turns are located, has been designated as the lane exclusive for public utility buses (PUBs) under the EDSA Busway system.
This exclusive lane stretches from Monumento in Caloocan to SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City and back.
Meanwhile, MMDA Chair Danilo Lim said they are in constant coordination with the DOTr, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), in exploring ways to facilitate faster movement of both commuters and private motorists along EDSA.
“The government’s goal of providing safe, reliable, and efficient travel for commuters along the country’s main thoroughfare will further continue in coordination with concerned agencies,” Lim was quoted as saying.
The start of the gradual closure of U-turn slots along EDSA began last September.
The latest U-turn closure was made November 23, specifically the one along EDSA near Oliveros Drive and the other in Balintawak Market.
