MMDA to conduct traffic-alleviating measures following EDSA-Kamuning Flyover closure

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes recently said that motorcycles will be rerouted to alternative routes such as Scout Borromeo, Panay Avenue, Mother Ignacia Avenue, and Scout Albano.
"This move is to lessen the traffic on Kamuning service road. All vehicles, including motorcycles, are urged to use the alternate routes," he expounded.
Artes also noted that the agency will install more directional and traffic signages as well as additional traffic enforcers in the area to help motorists.
The agency shall ask the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the EDSA carousel buses to utilize the service road daily to ensure uninterrupted retrofitting works at the flyover.
Based on the data from the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center, around 24,000 four-wheeled vehicles and 23,000 motorcycles traverse the southbound lanes of the flyover daily.
Relatedly, intensified clearing operations on Mabuhay Lanes and other identified alternate routes will continue. "Barangay officials will help in clearing alternate routes and ensuring smooth traffic flow in the area," Artes said.
Earlier, the MMDA advised private motorists to take the following routes:
- From EDSA/Quezon Avenue (southbound) make a right turn to Panay Avenue
- From Panay Avenue make a left turn to Sergeant Esguerra Avenue
- From Sergeant Esguerra Avenue make a left turn to Timog Avenue
- From Timog Avenue make a right turn to EDSA Service Road
- From EDSA/Quezon Avenue (southbound) make a right turn to Mother Ignacia Avenue
- From Mother Ignacia Avenue make a left turn to Sergeant Esguerra Avenue
- From EDSA/Quezon Avenue (southbound) make a right turn to Panay Avenue or Mother Ignacia Avenue
- From Panay Avenue or Mother lgnacia Avenue make a Left turn to Sergeant Esguerra Avenue
- From Sergeant Esguerra Avenue continue straight to 11th Jamboree
- From Kamuning Road take the EDSA Service Road
- From 11th Jamboree Avenue make a left turn to Kamuning Road
- From EDSA/Quezon Avenue (southbound) make a right turn to Eugenio Lopez Jr. Drive
- From Eugenio Lopez Jr. Drive or Scout Borromeo make a left turn to Sergeant Esguerra Avenue
- From EDSA/Quezon Avenue (southbound) make a right turn to Scout Borromeo Street
- From Sergeant Esguerra Avenue make a left turn to Timog Avenue
- From Eugenio Lopez Jr. Drive or Scout Borromeo Street make a left turn to Samar Avenue

Meanwhile, Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region Director Loreta Malaluan said the retrofitting will be conducted round-the-clock aimed at strengthening the flyover to prepare it for potential earthquakes, or the "Big One."
