The MMDA is set to deploy 1,500 personnel for "Oplan Undas."According to MMDA Acting Chairman Engr. Carlo Dimayuga III, the aforementioned number of personnel — which will come from the Traffic Discipline Office, Road Emergency Group, Metro Parkways Clearing Group, and Task Force Special Operations, among other departments — will man various areas around Metro Manila from October 28-30 upon the activation of the agency’s "Oplan Undas 2022."
"The MMDA is all set to undertake measures on traffic management, cleanup operations, road emergency and public assistance, and clearing of road obstructions in preparation for Undas," Dimayuga said.
During the inspection of several terminals in Cubao, Quezon City yesterday (Tuesday October 25), Dimayuga reiterated that provincial buses are only allowed to utilize the designated back door exits to avoid heavy traffic jams on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). "The agency is providing traffic assistance to ensure faster turnaround of buses," he noted.
Since thousands are expected to travel to their provinces to pay respect to their loved ones, the MMDA will position traffic personnel to major roads leading to cemeteries and transportation hubs.
They shall also focus their operations on entry and exit points to and from Metro Manila.
"No day off, no absent policy will be enforced among traffic enforcers for Undas," Dimayuga noted.
Further, the agency said that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) — also known as the number coding scheme — will be suspended on October 31; and November 1 — both special non-working holidays.
Moreover, the Road Emergency Group will put up public assistance centers with tents and ambulances for additional aid and rescue services at Metro Manila's five major cemeteries namely Manila North Cemetery, South Cemetery, Loyola Memorial Park, Bagbag Public Cemetery, and San Juan Public Cemetery.
The MMDA’s sidewalk and road clearing teams are set to remove all forms of obstructions on major roads, particularly those leading to cemeteries.
The Metro Parkways Clearing Group are the ones who will maintain the cleanliness in the vicinity of cemeteries and memorial parks.
Lastly, the Metrobase Command Center and Digital Media Group are tasked to monitor traffic situations in the metropolis, addressing public concerns and providing real-time traffic updates.
