The MMDA is planning to use the rightmost lane for bicycles, followed by a public utility vehicle lane, while the third lane from the right will be for motorcycles.

MMDA General Manager Baltazar Melgar said that as of 2021, the average daily traffic for motorcycles in Commonwealth Avenue is 133,591.
  • The government agency bared its plan through a social media post after the two-day motorcycle consultation workshop.

"Ang pagtatalaga ng mga exclusive motorcycle lanes sa kahabaan ng nasabing highway ang isa sa napagkasunduan sa workshop. Ito ay irerekomenda sa Metro Manila Council, na binubuo ng 17 alkalde ng Metro Manila (The eyed putting up of exclusive motorcycle lanes along the said highway is one of the items agreed upon in the workshop. It will be recommended to the Metro Manila Council, which is made up of the 17 mayors of Metro Manila)," the MMDA said in the post.

Reports stated that the MMDA is planning to use the rightmost lane for bicycles, followed by a public utility vehicle lane, while the third lane from the right will be for motorcycles.

Earlier, MMDA Acting Chairman Engr. Carlo Antonio Dimayuga III said that the goal for reviving motorcycle lanes in the area is “to put the vehicles in order and as part of road safety for the motorcycle-riding public.”

MMDA General Manager Baltazar Melgar shared during the workshop the agency’s Traffic Engineering Center stating that in 2021, around 133,591 motorcycles use Commonwealth Avenue.

Dimayuga also shared that of the 2.9 million registered vehicles in Metro Manila last year, 1.44 million are motorcycles
