What work-hour schedule will the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority recommend to the Office of the President?
The agency said that it will recommend a 7 a.m.-4 p.m. work-hour schedule for government employees. Why will the MMDA recommend the modified schedule to the President?
The agency will make the recommendation to soften the impact of the expected heavy traffic flow in EDSA in line with its impending rehabilitation. In a statement, the agency expressed firm belief that the 7 a.m.-4 p.m. working hour schedule for government employees will have a positive effect on traffic flow, as seen in the result of the survey conducted related to it.
The aforementioned report stated that following the schedule will result in faster travel time during peak hours in Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares, as well as decrease in traffic delays.
Per MMDA, NGA employees using private vehicles during peak hours will be distributed by 37.15 percent (175,918 individuals) of the 473,533 personnel. Additionally, 47.20 percent of the total number of NGA employees, (approximately 223,508 government workers) taking the public transport will avoid joining rush hour.
After receiving a consensus from the local government units in Manila on their experiences with the modified working hours, MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes will send the collected information as well as his recommendation to the Office of the President.
“We’ll get first the consensus of the mayors. We’ll coordinate with them and ask them what their preference is so that the data we’ll be submitting to the President is complete and the recommendations will be in line with various experiences of each of the LGUs,” Artes said.
The recommendation is eyed to be submitted before March, which is the target starting date for the EDSA rehabilitation program.
