Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is updating its pickup truck segment staple, the Strada. The GLS variant of MMPC’s all-around ute now flaunts a tougher and more contemporary-looking exterior.
At the fore, the Mitsubishi Strada GLS now boasts a black radiator grille and front under garnish. This makes the brand’s Dynamic Shield fascia look more sporty and aggressive. The updated front end also sports a new headlight garnish, which blends seamlessly with the pickup truck’s LED daytime running lights (DRLs).
Its door mirror, step board, outer handles, and 18-inch alloy wheels are also blacked out, giving emphasis to the Mitsubishi Strada GLS’ sportier side profile.
Similarly, its rear now also sports a black rear gate handle and step bumper to round up the dark exterior treatment to the facellifted Strada GLS.
The Mitsubishi Strada GLS does retain the same engine, a 2.4-liter diesel MIVEC power plant mated to either a six-speed manual slushbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain setup has earned the pickup truck its reputation in terms of reliability and allows the Strada’s GLS variants to put out around 179 horses and 430Nm of torque. In terms of fuel economy, the Mitsubishi Strada GLS clocks in at 18.9kpl.
Its powerful and economical engine is accompanied by a suite of four-wheel-drive systems that allow owners to select the appropriate setting on the fly. Included are the 2H (2WD High Range), 4H (4WD High Range), and 4LLc (4WD Low Range with Locked Center Differential).
Likewise, the Mitsubishi Strada GLS also packs a slew of safety features to keep its occupants safe and sound in various driving conditions. Available are the Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control (M-ASTC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).
Models under the GLS variants include the 2WD M/T, 2WD A/T, and 4WD M/T.
“The Mitsubishi Strada was made for both work and play. It’s a pickup truck that Filipinos can confidently rely on to handle whatever and wherever they need to be, especially for the unpredictable weather and road conditions here in the country. So may it be flooding in city streets or a weekend off-roading trip, the Strada has got you covered,” said MMPC President and CEO Takeshi Hara.
“We wanted to re-introduce the Strada’s GLS series with a stronger and more powerful look that appeals across a wider variety of buyers. And although the changes are just on the ‘outer skin,’ customers can look forward to its robust and reliable DNA that has been known for over 40 years since this nameplate was introduced,” he added.
