Organizers said that some 30 teams will join the overlanding competition.From October 12-16, a total of 30 teams are set to outwit and outmaneuver each other during the expedition, which will have its flag-off at the LausGroup Event Centre in San Fernando, Pampanga. From there, participants will travel a 285-kilometer-long stretch to General Nakar, Quezon.
The competitors will earn points based on the completion of tasks along the trail, which includes 160 kilometers of asphalt road, and 120 kilometers of gravel, sand, mud, rocky paths, and river crossings.
The team with the highest score will be declared the champion of the event. Aside from the recognition, the champion team will receive P500,000; the second placer gets P200,000 and the third, P100,000. Further, two teams shall also be given P75,000 each as special prize winners.
The participants will be welcomed at the finish line by outdoor enthusiasts and spectators at the Overland Expo.
Mototesto President and Chief Executive Officer Tim Tuazon expressed his willingness to impart the knowledge he gained over the years.
“The main goal of creating this event is to showcase the beauty of the Philippines, and strengthen the bond with our Mototesto customers, while fostering unforgettable experiences with them”, Tuazon said.
Moreover, Tuazon noted that Petron’s high-quality products are perfect in fueling the “intense passion” that goes with the lifestyle.
“Mototesto is honored to have them onboard in taking overlanding to the next level”, he added.
In his recorded message, General Nakar Mayor Eliseo Ruzol is grateful for the opportunity that the event will be held in their location as it will likely boost tourism in the area.
Part of the Petron Philippine Overland Expedition’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative is to donate excess proceeds that can potentially be up to P1 million.
Further, Tuazon said that they are expecting at least 300 vehicles to join the event.
