In a recent press release, Honda confirmed that a Type-R Civic is in the works. Not only that, the company said that the racing-inspired version of the vehicle will be introduced in 2022.
Teaser photos were included in a press article showing a camouflaged Civic Type-R. Its front end bears striking similarities to the recently released 11th-gen 2022 Honda Civic in the US which sports a two-part grille: one adjoining the slim LED headlamps while the other is flanked by front fog lamps.
Also noticeable are the finer honeycomb mesh screens, obviously for better airflow.
It also features the same Euro-inspired coupe-like proportions.
At the rear is a large wing, two (most likely) LED taillights, and a triple exhaust pipe sitting at the bottom center. At both sides of the triple tailpipe, we reckon, are diffusers.
The 2022 Honda Civic Type-R seems to be wearing alloy wheels that somewhat flaunt its red, beefy Brembo brake calipers.
Honda also seems to want its Nürburgring record back. According to the Japanese carmaker, the next-gen Civic Type-R is ready to take on the 13-mile circuit. For decades, the Nürburgring has been a benchmark for performance and a testing facility for many automakers.
The previous-gen Type-R clocked in at seven minutes and 43.8 seconds in 2017. The said record, however, was broken by a Renault Megane RS which finished in seven minutes and 40.1 seconds.
Will Honda set a new lap record on the iconic race track? Like you, we’re dying to find out.
