The new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid has reached the Philippines.
Revealed over the weekend at the Porsche Festival of Dreams, the Porsche Cayenne’s new energy vehicle iteration is the newest expansion to the nameplate’s local lineup. To recall, the final version of the internal combustion engine-propelled Cayenne was launched last September.
Offered coupe and sport utility vehicle options, the new Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine matched to an electric motor and integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The combined mill — which lets the vehicle sprint 100 kilometers per hour (kph) from rest in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 254 kph — has a maximum output of 464 horses and 650 Newton-meters of pulling power.
Per Porsche Philippines, the electric motor improves the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s recuperation performance by around 30 percent. In generator mode, the Cayenne can convert power of up to 88 kilowatt (kw) into electrical energy and supply it to the traction battery.
Aside from that, the recuperation system can decelerate the vehicle to a speed of two kph.
The new Porsche 25.9 kilowatt-hour (kwh) battery gives the vehicle a purely electric range of up to 90 kilometers (equivalent all-electric range-city driving). Its on-board AC charger (which has charging capacity of 11 kw) can fully charge the vehicle in around two hours.
Porsche claimed that it has improved the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s drive mode configuration. In Sport mode, the vehicle maintains a minimum battery charge level of 20 percent. Meanwhile, the minimum charge level drops from 80 percent to 30 percent in Sport Plus program.
The new strategy, Porsche noted, reduces the number of charging phases — improving its overall efficiency without affecting performance.
Additionally, the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s combustion engine and the electric motor share the workload when in Porsche E-Charge mode (which is utilized when the vehicle is driven at speeds of less than 55 kph). The maximum charge level using the aforementioned technology is only at 80 percent.
Just like the fully-electric Taycan, the new Cayenne E-Hybrid boasts the Porsche Driver Experience layout — with the commonly-used controls placed on or beside the steering wheel and the gear selector in the dashboard.
The updated cockpit also has a curved, 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch central Porsche Communication Management display, and an optional 10.9-inch screen passenger display.
Like the new Cayenne offerings, the E-Hybrid iteration is fitted with redesigned front and rear portions as seen in the new hood, grille, bumpers and rear apron.
Assuring better operation on the road is the two-chamber air suspension system fitted to the new Cayenne E-Hybrid. The technology augments the vehicle’s performance on- and off-road and offers more differentiation between Normal, Sport and Sport Plus driving modes.
