Toyota Motor Philippines recently launched the all-new Toyota Vios, and if you're looking to buy one, then you'll be glad to know it'll keep you and everyone in it safe as it scored a
5-Star rating during the series of tests conducted in the fourth quarter of 2017 by the
New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP).
The Toyota Vios was the first official test conducted by ASEAN NCAP in 2012. In that assessment, the Vios received a 4-Star rating for the
Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and a 2-Star rating for the
Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. At that time, ASEAN NCAP had a different ratings system and didn't have a total cumulative score broken down through three categories, including a vehicle's
Safety Assist Technologies (SATs).
For the all-new model, the Vios--which is marketed as the Yaris Ativ in some ASEAN countries--was awarded with a
5-Star rating under the 2017-2020 protocol by obtaining an overall score of
81.63 points. The score can be broken down as follows:
44.70 points for AOP,
21.66 points for the COP and
15.28 points for its SATs.
As tested by ASEAN NCAP, the Toyota Vios was equipped with
seven airbags and had active safety features like
seat belt reminder for front-seat occupants,
electronic stability control and
anti-lock brake systems, and
ISOFIX and
top-tether restraints as standard across all variants.
