Newly-widened Lawton Avenue in Taguig now open
The initial phase of the road widening project on Fort Bonifacio-Nichols Field Road in Taguig City, most commonly known as Lawton Avenue, has officially been opened to the public.
Leading the inauguration rites are Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, together with Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano and Taguig Representative Lani Cayetano.
According To Villar, the newly accomplished project will cut travel time by almost half.
“We are glad to inform the motoring public that their traffic woes will soon be over with the completion of this 1.34-kilometer road widening project that will provide better traffic flow, faster mobilization of goods and services, as well as a safer journey,” Villar said.
“This newly-widened road will reduce travel time from Bonifacio Global City (BGC) to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by about 40 percent with its capacity to accommodate additional volume of vehicles, providing a new and safer access road to the country’s main gateway,” the public works secretary explained.
Initiated in August 2017, the said project is part of the Department’s traffic decongesting efforts under the Build, Build, Build Program.
The road matches the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road which is part of it is recently connected to the Lawton Avenue-Sta. Monica Bridge. The full completion of the project is eyed to be finished next year.
It was in February this year when Villar said that travel time to BGC to Ortigas will be lessened to 11 minutes by 2021, following the inspection of the BGC-Ortigas Center Road link.
