The next-generation Ford Territory made its way into the Philippine automotive landscape sometime last month, offering attendees of the 2023 Manila International Auto Show a look at what awaits those who will be driving home the latest iteration of the Blue Oval brand’s compact crossover.
On that note, we’re going to take a look at the pros and cons of the second-generation Ford Territory, to help those eyeing the nameplate’s newest version.
One thing you’d immediately notice about the next-generation Ford Territory is how much it’s grown. Compared to the outgoing model, the crossover's newly-launched version is 50 millimeters (mm) longer and 32mm taller. It also has a higher ground clearance, at 190mm.
Thanks to the abovementioned changes, the next-generation Ford Territory offers a more commanding presence while it rides on the road. In the same way, it gives a more compelling stance when sitting still in the parking lot.
In addition to its larger dimensions, the next-generation Ford Territory also grew a bigger grille. What’s more, the grille now boasts a scale-like design, which makes the compact crossover look more aggressive.
Hidden in the tough-looking two-tone grille is a camera that will help owners squeeze into tight parking spaces or maneuver through tough city streets. The front camera on the grille is complemented by a few others located on each of the crossover’s side mirrors and on the tailgate.
The next-generation Ford Territory also boasts a superior interior, at least when compared to its predecessors.
Owners are now greeted with a seamless display that combines the 12-inch digital instrument cluster and the 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless Apple Carplay and wireless Android Auto.
Also standard is a wireless charging tray for easy smartphone charging.
Further, the range-topping model comes with perforated leather seats, a leather steering wheel, an armrest finished in the same upmarket hide, and a panoramic moonroof.
The range-topping next-generation Ford Territory comes with a light-colored interior that gives the cabin of the subcompact crossover a clean look.
And while it looks pleasing to the eye, these light-colored surfaces can easily catch dirt, especially if you're driving around town with tiny tots and fur babies.
While the rear end of the next-generation Ford Territory does somewhat echo the taillamps of the first two next-generation vehicles introduced by the American automotive brand, its headlamps could use a facelift.
The next-generation Ford Ranger and next-generation Everest are easily identifiable whether you see them parked in a garage or when you come across one on the road. Ford could have given the Territory that “next-gen” look if it slapped C-shaped lights at the fore.
