The next-generation Ford Ranger is inarguably one of the most capable pick-up trucks in the country's market today, making it one of the real gems in the category. Ever since it was introduced locally about a decade ago, the nameplate already showed features that are already a cut above the rest.
A recent drive to Mapanuepe Lake in Zambales demonstrated how the Blue Oval brand was able to increase its value even further as it continuously meets its ultimate goal to meet the needs of customers.
Here’s what we have enjoyed with Ford Ranger’s Wildtrak 4x4 variant during the aforementioned trip.
While on the road to Clark in Zambales, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 already proved that it was nothing short of spectacular. The vehicle displayed how form and function can be properly intertwined, meaning that its boxy appearance perfectly matched its athletic capabilities.
At the fore of the Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4’s latest version is the glistening C-clamp LED headlights bordered by its front grille that features a unique accent specific to the Wildtrak. Elegant as it is, it comes with puddle lamps, side steps, rear box steps, sports bar and roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels to reflect its sporty persona.
Although the immersive experience did not examine how fast it can do on paved roads, the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 has established its drivability in the urban jungle.
During the convoy at the Skyway, the vehicle managed to keep its pace with other vehicles, thanks to its adaptive cruise control. The said technology worked cohesively with the autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep system, and evasive steer assist, which somehow made me think that the pick-up truck can drive by itself safely.
Aside from driving over smooth roads, the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 traversed the tough trails to the campground easily as it is powered by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox that can dish out 207 horsepower and 500Nm of torque. Its stopping power, on the other hand, comes from ventilated disc brakes.
The long drive to the campground helped participants appreciate the cabin more. Occupants are welcomed by the supple leather that covers much of the vehicle’s interior and the 12-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system that has a Sync 4A, Wireless Apple Carplay, and Android Auto compatibility.
The wireless charging dock located below the air-conditioning controls can conveniently juiced up mobile phones to guarantee that devices have enough power. And should participants need more, it also offered a pair of 12-volt sockets as well USB ports so that more gadgets can be accommodated.
The steering wheel’s layout and sizing are shaped to help drivers drop the improper hand positioning, thereby raising safety and convenience while on the road. However, drivers might need some time to get totally familiar with the numerous buttons that are fitted onto it.
Just like its big and bulky brethren that is the Ford F-150, the next-generation Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 proved that aside from its fancy features, it is really built as a utility vehicle. Owners can have the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak with built-in electrical sockets for plug-in items within its multi-functional bed that features a tailgate lift assist — making it the first in its class to be equipped with such technology.
Aside from that, the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak’s bed box — which is is 1,564 millimeters (mm) long, 1,584mm wide and 540mm deep — assures high hauling capacity. Moreover, the next-generation Ranger Wildtrak 4x4's overall dimension that measures 5,370mm long, 1,918mm wide and 1,884mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,270mm and ground clearance of 235mm, ensured sufficient space for all occupants.
The P1.885-million price tag could be a little steep, but with all its bells and whistles, a little addition to enjoy much convenience is a trade that many would be willing to take.
Overall, the next-generation Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 is surely a gem that needs no polishing to shine above the rest.
