Nissan Leaf now available, priced at P2.798-M
Over the weekend, Nissan in the Philippines officially launched here the much-awaited Nissan Leaf, its flagship electric vehicle offering.
The Nissan Leaf, which was originally scheduled for introduction last year, is now being offered in the country for ₱2.798 million.
Nissan in the Philippines—under the leadership of its President and Managing Director, Atsushi Najima—is also set to put up seven charging stations in the country through its dealerships, creating the largest nationwide EV charging station network.
During the online reveal, Najima said that the Nissan Leaf embodies Nissan Intelligent Mobility through three key aspects: Intelligent Power, Intelligent Driving, and Intelligent Integration.
The Nissan Leaf is equipped with a 40kWh lithium-ion battery which, based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standards, can muster a range of up to 311 kilometers when fully charged. This distance is equivalent to going Quezon City and Bonifacio Global City twice a day for five days or a one-way out of town trip to Baguio.
The all-electric powertrain of in the Nissan Leaf can dish out a peak 148hp (110kW) and 320Nm torque that can go from zero to 100kph in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 140kph.
The Nissan Leaf has been provided with a couple of charging options: A dedicated wall outlet can charge the vehicle in 15 to 18 hours, and at quick charging stations found in select Nissan dealerships to full charge the vehicle as fast as 40 minutes to an hour.
Reminding one of driving a bump car is the Nissan Leaf’s e-pedal innovation. This feature allows drivers to start, accelerate, decelerate, and stop using just one pedal by increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the accelerator. When the accelerator is fully released, regenerative and friction brakes are applied automatically, bringing the car to a complete stop. Such technology makes its suitable for stop-and-go traffic.
Aside from that, intelligent assistive features are found in the Nissan Leaf, which include Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Around View Monitor, High Beam Assist, and Hill Start Assist.
It also has Intelligent Emergency Braking, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Lane Intervention, and Intelligent Trace Control as safety features.
Further, Nissan claimed that the Nissan Leaf also has a "bi-directional" charging ability (vehicle-to-everything [V2X> technology) to power homes and equipment, or simply give back energy to the power grid.
“Finally bringing the Nissan Leaf to the Philippines is a high point in our efforts throughout the years to inform and educate the Filipino public on the benefits of EV adoption. The Nissan Leaf is key to realizing our vision of enriching Filipino lives towards a more connected, sustainable, and resilient society,” says Najima was quoted as saying.
For his part, Nissan ASEAN Regional Vice President Isao Sekiguchi expressed pride over the latest release for the Philippine market.
“The Nissan Leaf's launch in the Philippines is the latest chapter in our electrification strategy in ASEAN. This is part of Nissan's DNA of daring to do what others don't as we make electrified mobility more accessible to the people in the region,” Sekiguchi said.
The newly offered model also comes with a three-year vehicle warranty or for the first 100,000 kilometers (whichever comes first) and an eight-year battery warranty or for the first 160,000 kilometers.
The Nissan Leaf is offered in initially in three dealerships:
- Nissan Mantrade Makati,
- Nissan Otis, and
- Nissan Cebu South - V. Rama.
All these facilities will be equipped with EV charging systems while waiting for four more dealerships that will also have the similar charging facility within the year.
