Aside from lighting up the Christmas tree in the United Kingdom to mark the 250,000th-electric vehicle (EV) production milestone there, Nissan is also powering up Christmas lights in the Philippines anew with the Leaf.
The Japanese automaker’s arm in the country said that the purely-electric powered vehicle acted as the power generator to the City of Ormoc’s 50-foot Christmas tree as the company pushes for sustainable mobility while bringing joy and hope to the locals in the region.
The Christmas tree lighting with the Nissan Leaf was made possible thanks to the latter's vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology.
In a statement, Nissan said that Leaf “aims to provide an optimistic outlook for the future and people of Ormoc” — an area known to be often hit by storms, including Typhoon Odette that devastated the city December last year.
Nissan Philippines said that with the latest program at Ormoc City, the company is “taking one of the many steps to reinforce the role of sustainable mobility in creating resilient societies through its Blue Switch initiative” launched in January 2022.
Present at the tree lighting ceremony were Nissan Philippines President Juan Manuel Hoyos, Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, Leyte Congressman Richard Gomez, Ormoc City SP Chairman Peter Rodriguez, and Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Sr.
Also gracing the ceremony were Gateway Motors Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer Michael Goho, Topcars Autoworld Corporation President Willard Chan, Topcars Autoworld Corporation Managing Director Ryan Chan, Topcars Autoworld Corporation Chief Finance Officer Charlene Chan.
Gateway Motors is the exclusive distributor of Nissan LEAF in the Philippines while Topcars Autoworld Corporation is the owner and operator of the Nissan dealership in Ormoc City.
"We are very honored to have been a part of this special ceremony. We understand the significance of the event to the city of Ormoc and we're glad that the Nissan Leaf was able to bring joy to the local community. We look forward to helping the city in its recovery efforts and be more resilient with the help of our EV technologies," Hoyos said.
