Nissan PH: No sales target yet for Nissan Leaf

The leadership of Nissan in the Philippines is not giving any sales projections yet for its flagship electric vehicle (EV) Leaf which it launched here recently.

During a virtual roundtable discussion, President and Managing Director for Nissan in the Philippines Atsushi Najima commented that the  country is still in the “early stage of EV adoption.”

“We have enough stock in the dealership. We need to see how the units will go out,” the executive for the Japanese automaker’s local arm told Carmudi Philippines.

As Najima expressed optimism that the Leaf will be warmly received, he noted the relative struggle being experienced by  hybrid offerings and other alternative-power vehicles in the market. “But still, we are confident we are going to sell a certain amount of volume to customers,” Najima added.

Last year, the Nissan shared that it reached a  500,000-unit production milestone after 10 years after the first Leaf debuted.

The sticker price of the Nissan Leaf is ₱2.798 million.

However, Najima assured that it would be cheaper to maintain the Nissan Leaf compared to an internal combustion engine (ICE)-equipped offering in the local market.

In fact, he shared that on a regular preventive maintenance service PMS, a new Nissan Leaf owner will be able to save 20 to 30 percent as compared to expense on ICE, citing that some of the maintenance items are no longer applicable to the Nissan Leaf such as engine oil and engine filter, among others.

To add, Nissan Leaf owners are advised to schedule a PMS every six months.

The Leaf also also comes with a three-year vehicle warranty or 100,000 kilometers (whichever comes first) and an eight-year/160,000-kilometer battery warranty.

The Nissan Leaf is initially offered in Nissan Mantrade Makati, Nissan Otis, and Nissan Cebu South-V. Rama. All have a charging facility. Nissan Philippines is set to offer the Leaf in an additional four dealerships before the end of the year.
