Nissan USA builds the 2022 Frontier with assistance of robots
Nissan officially started building with robots the all-new 2022 Frontier at its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Mississippi.
Nissan said its Frontier has been built at Nissan Canton since 2012, with its engine produced at the Decherd Powertrain Plant in Decherd, Tennessee.
Collaborative robot, or cobot, technology works to assemble the Frontier. These robots support process factory automation, resulting in improved safety performance, and less strain on workers, Nissan said.
The technology is being used to assist, rather than take over, a number of jobs to ensure repetitive tasks are done the same way every time, increasing efficiency and vehicle quality, Nissan shared.
As for the midsize Frontier, Nissan boasted its rugged exterior with a massive grille and chiseled hood.
As the "right-sized" pickup for a workweek in the city or weekend of off-road adventures, every Frontier comes equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 engine with "best-in-class" 310hp. The engine is matched to a nine-speed automatic.
Inside, the Frontier uses a seven-inch Advanced Driver Assist Display and an available, largest-in-class nine-inch color touchscreen. Standard technology includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with WiFi and wireless charging available. Nissan Safety Shield 360 is also available on every trim.
As for the Navara sold locally, it comes with Nissan Intelligent Mobility and its bevy of safety features. It includes Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, which monitors vehicles in front to reduce the risk of accidents. Meanwhile, Intelligent Emergency Braking overrides the brakes to avoid or minimize impact.
The Intelligent Around View Monitor is a nifty gadget when the Navara is taken off road, as it checks surrounding obstacles at low speeds when in four-wheel-drive mode.
The Navara update includes the new PRO-4X top-dog variant, which sports the new Navara's styling updates but with added touches. It includes an orange-accented front bumper, black grille, door handles, roof racks, running boards, and 17-inch black wheels shod in all-terrain tires.
