The tollway operator for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is set to jack up the price of toll rates beginning next week.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the toll price hike for the North Luzon Expressway take place?

The toll price hike will take place on June 15, 2023.
  • How much is the latest toll price adjustment for NLEX?

The approved toll rate will reflect an increase at least P7 in the open system and P0.36 per kilometer in the closed system. The toll hike will become effective on June 15.
  • According to the NLEX Corporation, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has approved the increase of at least P7 in the open system and P0.36 per kilometer in the closed system. The price hike will become effective on June 15.

The company said that aforementioned rates were part of the authorized periodic adjustments due in 2012, 2014, 2018 and 2020. Per NLEX, the TRB allowed the firm to collect this year the fourth and final tranche of the 2012 and 2014 periodic adjustments and only half of the 2018 and 2020 adjustments to help “curb the existing inflationary situation and cushion their impact on the users of the expressway.”

However, public utility jeepneys (PUJ) under the NLEX Pass-ada and Tsuper Card discount and rebate programs will continue to enjoy the old rates.

Under the new toll fee matrix, motorists traveling anywhere within the open system will pay an additional P7 for Class 1 vehicles, P17 for Class 2 units (buses and small trucks), and P19 for Class 3 vehicles (large trucks).

To note, the open system is from Metro Manila in the cities of Navotas, Valenzuela and Caloocan to Marilao, Bulacan while the closed system covers the portion between Bocaue, Bulacan and Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga including Subic-Tipo.

Further, motorists traveling the NLEX end-to-end between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City will pay an additional P33 for Class 1, P81 for Class 2 and P98 for Class 3 vehicles.

    NLEX Corporation

NLEX Corporation said that while waiting for the amendments on toll prices, it continued ensuring that its road assets and operations are at par with standards. Aside from that, traffic management systems were also upgraded to closely monitor the traffic situation in the entire stretch of the expressway, and to immediately respond to incidents.

Moreover, the company also began the preliminary works for the Candaba Third Viaduct and is currently eyeing to expand the NLEX San Fernando to Sta. Ines, which will help address the increase in the volume of vehicles using the expressway.

Groundbreaking for the third viaduct is set to take place this June. The project will enlarge the five-kilometer bridge from the current three lanes without shoulder to three lanes with inner and outer shoulder per direction. Additionally, the new bridge shall also enable faster journeys as it will increase the maximum speed at the area from 60 kilometers per hour (kph) to 80 kph.
