NNIC increases NAIA parking rates

NAIA

Motorists who will use the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) shall be paying heftier rates when parking at the airport premises.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the NAIA parking rates?

Under the new rates, the first two hours of parking will now cost P50 while staying overnight will be P1,200 for cars, P480 for motorcycles, and P2,400 for buses.
  • Why did NNIC adjust the parking rates?

The rates were adjusted to prioritize passengers and improve airport flow.
  • In a statement, New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC) said that the new rates for utilizing the airport parking space is the first adjustment in over a decade and are aimed to “optimize parking facilities by prioritizing parking for passengers.”

The said adjustment is in line with the MIAA (Manila International Airport Authority) Administrative Order 1 Series of 2024 and approved through Cabinet Resolution 1, Series of 2024, which was issued before NNIC assumed airport operations.

According to NNIC, the previous parking rates “unintentionally encouraged misuse of the airport’s limited parking spaces.”

“Many individuals, including those from nearby establishments and with no airport-related business, were taking advantage of the low rates for overnight or long-term parking. This created a parking shortage for actual passengers, adding to congestion and frustration,” the San Miguel Corporation-led firm said.

With that, NNIC said that the new rates are specifically designed to discourage non-travelers from using the airport for long-term parking and ensure that passengers have access to the parking they need, when they need it.

Aside from that, it will also cut down the number of vehicles circling the airport to search for spaces, and will help NNIC better manage the limited parking resources.

    What are the new rates?

Under the new rates, the first two hours of parking will now cost P50 as to the previous P40.

Meanwhile, those who will park overnight will have to shell out P1,200 for cars, P480 for motorcycles, and P2,400 for buses – unlike the previous P300 across all categories.

In addition, NNIC said that some existing fixed-rate monthly parking agreements will not be renewed to free up more parking spaces for passengers.

"The goal is to optimize parking for our passengers. While the previous rates may have been convenient for some, they created significant disadvantages for travelers. We believe these changes will create a more efficient and passenger-friendly airport experience,” the company elaborated.

Apart from saying that the adjustments “are not intended to generate profit,” NNIC also announced its plan to increase parking capacity by building new facilities, starting with Terminal 3, which currently accommodates 65,000 to 68,000 passengers daily.
