'No registration, no travel' policy eases up

vehicle volume

The implementation of the "no registration, no travel" policy shall be eased temporarily in time for the holiday season, the helm of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) shared.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • For how long will the Land Transportation ease the implementation of the "no registration, no travel" policy?

The policy will be softened for the rest of December 2023.
  • Can "delinquent" vehicle owners register their vehicles this December?

Yes, the Land Transportation Office welcomes vehicle owners to update their registration within the month.
  • According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, the softened policy implementation — which earned the approval of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista — will be up until December 31, 2023.

Panahon ngayon ng pagdiriwang at ayaw naman natin na ang inyong LTO ay magdudulot pa ng stress sa ating mga kababayan (This is the time for celebrations, and we do not want the LTO to cause more stress to our compatriots),” Mendoza was quoted as saying.

The latest order, the LTO noted, has already been relayed to all regional directors and other unit heads that include the Law Enforcement Service, which is tasked to operate against delinquent motor vehicles.

Mendoza noted that the resumption of the policy’s strict implementation shall continue by January 2024. He added that for now, enforcers shall only warn drivers of delinquent motor vehicles.

He then urged those who have failed to renew their motor vehicle registration should set aside a part of their 13th-month pay and bonus to settle their obligations.

    Mendoza From LTO

Earlier, Mendoza ordered the LTO Regional Directors and District Office heads to establish priority lanes for the registration of delinquent motor vehicles. The lanes will continue to be open within the month for those who want to renew the registration of delinquent motor vehicles.

The “no registration, no travel” initiative was made after the LTO claimed that around 24.7 million vehicles are classified as delinquent — which is 65 percent of the total number of vehicles in the country.
