Hands down, the Ford EcoSport is one of the prettiest crossovers in the country today. As one of the Blue Oval's top three sellers locally (the Everest and the Ranger are the other two), the EcoSport managed to strike it big in the hearts and wallets of Filipinos with every new release. Now celebrating its sixth year in the Philippine market, it doesn't appear that its popularity will dwindle anytime soon, especially with the release of the refreshed Ford EcoSport with its new fuel-efficient EcoBoost engine and a whole host of nifty new additions. Check out how the Ford EcoSport has evolved in this comparison of its old and new versions.
The old EcoSport sold locally was powered by a lone 1.5-liter Ti-VCT engine option that produced 110hp and 142Nm of torque, though the global version came with other engines. This was mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or the more fuel-efficient 6-speed automatic gearbox.
When Ford introduced the latest EcoSport version, it retained the base 1.5-liter inline-four engine, but also added a 1.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost inline-three. The new option delivers 123hp and 170Nm. Transmission options are the same as before—5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Sharing its platform with the Ford Fiesta, the new EcoSport is 4325 mm long and 1,765 wide, with a wheelbase length of 2519mm and ground clearance of 209mm, plus a water wading depth of 550mm.
The 2018 Ford Ecosport exterior has an elegant, modern design that simultaneously looks rugged and sleek. The signature hexagonal grille remains, but Ford enlarged it to the point that it gobbles up the slim upper grille above it, so the double grille of old now takes on a seamless single look. Everything else remains the same, save for a new cover to the rear-mounted tires. Old admirers, will be pleased to know that the unique side-hinged rear hatch is retained in the new model. Other new additions include rain sensing wipers and rear parking camera.
Ford made the smart move to make the EcoSport interior stylish and ergonomic, without drawing too much attention. Some may consider the appearance a little busy, but it has all of the things you need within reach. It has plenty of head and leg room to go with its bevy of storage options. The gauges and console are clean and well-plotted out. The material quality is good, though nothing to fawn about. Still, it comes across as a very comfortable and well-made vehicle. Ford also added an automatic climate control feature to the new version.
With regards to infotainment, the Titanium features a 10-speaker sound system capable of delivering 675-plus watts of power. The audio system is connected to an eight-inch touchscreen and operated by Ford's Sync3 operating system. A navigation system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, multiple USB ports, and 12-volt outlets are also included in the interior.
In the old EcoSport, Prominent safety features such as emergency brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, hill launch assist, and rearview camera were available only with the top-ranging trims. These have trickled down to the mid-level trims in the new model.
The EcoSport initially came in four variants. Back in 2014 when it was introduced to the Philippines, the EcoSport was priced as follows:
For 2020, the EcoSport is sold in five available variants, with six optional colors (Absolute Black, Ingot Silver, Crystal White, Ruby Red, Canyon Ridge, and Blue Lightning)
