The Omoda 5 has received a five-star grade in the recent Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
Based on the latest rating, the Omoda 5 scored 87 percent on Adult Occupant Protection, 88 percent for Child Occupant Protection, 68 percent for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 83 percent for Safety Assist.
The newest score followed the same rating that the model got in the European New Car Assessment Program in December last year.
Omoda said that the new safety rating that the vehicle garnered exudes its “commitment to excellence in automotive safety.”
The company claimed that the sport utility vehicle (SUV) has “catered to the key demands of global consumers from the R&D and design stage.” “It has not only made great advancements in body structure, safety configuration, and other aspects but also carried out adaptive development verification in different environments and road conditions around the world,” it added.
Further, Omoda noted that the crossover’s main structure is mostly made up of high-strength steel (78 percent). The aforementioned component can withstand pressures of as much as 261,068 pounds per square inch. In addition, the cage body has been designed and manufactured to maintain its overall structure without deformation in case of accidents.
Inside, the Omoda 5 is fitted with dual front, side, curtain, and middle airbags that can guarantee occupant protection in the event of a collision.
Complementing the said technologies are the Omoda 5’s driver assistive systems such as the adaptive cruise control (among other features) to protect drivers and passengers.
The Omoda 5, which is present in 12 markets around the world, will be arriving in the Philippines later this year. In an interview with Carmudi Philippines, Omoda Philippines Director Marco Chen announced that the upcoming vehicle will have a below P1.5-million price tag.
Omoda Philippines said that the arriving model, which will come with an electric powertrain option, will go toe-to-toe with the Ford Territory and the Subaru XV.
