Omoda 5 receives ASEAN NCAP's top safety rating

The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has recently bestowed the highest rating to the Omoda 5.

Subjecting the vehicle in the evaluation’s 2021–2025 protocol, the said vehicle (which has yet to be sold in the Philippine market) got a five-star rating after scoring 88.64 points.

The said number was the collated points that the Omoda 5 garnered in various categories namely adult occupant protection (36.77 points), child occupant protection (17.36), safety assist (19.51), and motorcyclist safety (15).

Evaluators noted that Omoda’s sport utility vehicle comes with a myriad of safety technologies like the six airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, seatbelt reminder system for frontal and rear seats occupants, standard fitment of rear seats occupant detection, autonomous emergency braking for city and inter-urban, blind spot detection for both the driver and front passenger sides, auto high beam and pedestrian protection system.

Further, the vehicle under the Chery Group’s sub-brand also comes with a host of driver assistive technologies that come as standard or optional fitment like the lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and lane keep assist.

“Through this five-star achievement, ASEAN NCAP hopes Chery will continue to ensure its other models marketed for the region meet the same performance as the Omoda 5. This will undoubtedly give the needed safety benefits for the ASEAN users to enjoy and subsequently help to reduce the high number of road fatalities the region is currently faced with,” the organization said in a statement.

The same nameplate also received a five-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).

To recall, the Philippine-spec Omoda 5 was first publicly displayed at the Manila International Auto Show 2024.
