Peugeot has presented an updated version of the 2008 sport utility vehicle (SUV).
Per the French carmaker, the spruced-up 2008 boasts an updated design — and for its fully-electric variant — improved electric performance and longer range.
“With the new 2008, Peugeot continues to strengthen its technological and feline identity. One of the key elements of the design work is the staging of the front end, which magnifies the three-claw signature. It enhances the robust and muscular style that has made this SUV so successful in all markets and illustrates the move upmarket that the new 2008 is experiencing,” stated Peugeot Design Director Matthias Hossann.
Up front, the new Peugeot 2008 wears a new light signature characterized by the three vertical light claws that are integrated into the gloss black inserts on the SUV’s bumper.
The aforementioned feature at the fore can be found on all the new Peugeot 2008's trims except the GT, which gets an exclusive front-end signature.
It also wears an updated Peugeot emblem that is now wider and includes a specific lateral pattern that connects to the headlamps and reinforces the verticality and powerful stance of the vehicle.
The Peugeot 2008 Active variation received the new badge with a horizontal pattern while the Allure and GT trims get the emblem with a vertical one.
In addition, the new Peugeot 2008 SUV gets a suite of fresh wheels that befits its updated look. The Active variation rides on 16-inch “Noma” wheels while the Allure and GT grades get a set of 17-inch “Karakoy” wheels. Further, the Paris-based brand revealed that those opting for the GT variant can get the optional 18-inch “Evissa” wheels.
At the rear are new and redesigned signature lights that is similar to the illumination system found at the front of the updated Peugeot 2008. They are, as Peugeot described, made up of three superimposed horizontal double slats that contribute to visually widening the car's stance.
Peugeot also gave the interior of the new 2008 SUV a mild upgrade with new fabrics on the seats. Moreover, the GT version can be had with Alcantara leather upholstery.
The new Peugeot 2008 also sports a 10-inch digital instrument panel and a 10-inch infotainment screen.
“The new Peugeot 2008 affirms its move upmarket and enters a new dimension, thanks to its design, which is more SUV than ever before, its new-generation connectivity and even more range for its 100 percent electric version,” said Peugeot Product Director Jerome Micheron.
Peugeot 2008's all-electric variant — the e-2008 — comes with improved power and better range.
Maximum power for the Peugeot e-2008 has increased by 15 percent from 136 horsepower (hp) to 156 hp. Range, previously 345 kilometers (km) is now 406 km.
In addition to the electric powertrain, the new Peugeot 2008 SUV is offered in various internal combustion engine-powered variants, namely Puretech 100, Puretech130, and BlueHDI 130 EAT8.
Moreover, the Peugeot 2008 will soon get a hybrid powertrain, the carmaker revealed.
“The new e-2008 is equipped with the latest electric technology and offers a range of over 400 km. In a very active market, the new Peugeot 2008 has everything it takes to remain at the top of the compact SUV podium. It will continue to appeal to a wide range of customers looking for a sustainable experience, perfectly embodying the Peugeot values,” Micheron added.
The new Peugeot 2008 is built in the company’s Vigo plant in Spain. It will go on sale in summertime (from March to October) of 2023.
