Hot on the heels of its recent 308 reveal, French carmaker Peugeot unveils an even more practical and versatile variant of the family car.

The Peugeot 308 SW will also come in various powertrain options including two plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) variants.

During its launch, the 308 SW will be made available in Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 and Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 trims. The former features a combination of the brand’s 180hp PureTech engine and an 81kW electric motor mated to the e-EAT8 automatic gearbox. The latter uses a fusion of Peugeot’s 150hp PureTech engine and an 81kW electric motor mated to the e-EAT8 gearbox.

The Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 variant will offer up to 36 miles of 100 percent electric range while the Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 variant will offer up to 37 miles.

Both models will be powered by a 12.4kWh lithium-ion battery. Peugeot says two onboard chargers will be made available: a standard 3.7kW charger and an optional 7.4kW fast charger.

Also available is the 1.2-liter PureTech 130 S&S EAT8 eight-speed automatic gasoline variant and the 1.5-liter BlueHDi 130 S&S EAT8 eight-speed automatic diesel variant.

In addition, Peugeot packs the 308 SW with class-leading driver-assist features including semi-automatic lane change, anticipated speed recommendation, and curve speed adaptation.

Safety features such as long-range blind-spot monitoring, high-definition 180° reversing camera with integrated cleaning nozzle, and E-call+ emergency call with passenger number information and location (including the direction of the vehicle in the lane) are included in the Peugeot 308 SW.

Peugeot also looks to create its own vehicle ecosystem with the Peugeot Easy Charge and the Peugeot Easy Care.

With the Peugeot Easy charge, customers can access various charging solutions when driving the 308 SW’s PHEV variants. Peugeot Easy Care, on the other hand, allows customers to enjoy essential maintenance services with a single service plan.

“With the new 308 SW, Peugeot is giving buyers the possibility to choose a powertrain that best meets their needs, whether that is conventional petrol or diesel or plug-in hybrid variants. By 2025, customers across our entire model line-up will be able to choose between electrified models and conventional powertrains. The new 308 SW continues to lead the segment with its practical interior, class-leading levels of technology, and striking design,” said Peugeot UK Managing Director Julie David.

The new Peugeot 308 SW will be manufactured at the Mulhouse plant in France. It’s slated to be released in the European market in early 2022.
