The 12th edition of the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) offered attendees a glimpse of what the future of mobility looks like for the country.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What were the cars launched at PEVS 2024?
The cars launched at PEVS 2024 are the VinFast VF7, FAW Bestune Pony, and BYD Seal. How many days was PEVS 2024 scheduled for?
PEVS 2024 was scheduled for three days.On that note, various electric vehicle (EV) car brands were eager to showcase their offerings as well as new products they put forward to entice more adopters. In case you missed the three-day affair — or are interested in electric cars in general — here’s a summary of what transpired at PEVS 2024.
New VinFast car
The latest member of the VinFast fleet in the country made its official debut at PEVS.
VinFast 7 — after being previewed months before during the brand’s launch at SM Mall of Asia — is now being offered in two variants. One is fitted with a single electric motor while the other comes with two power units on each of its wheel axles.
For those looking to bring home the EV sport utility vehicle (SUV), its Standard variant is fitted with a 59.6 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and offers would-be owners some 375 kilometers (km).
On the other hand, the Plus model packs a larger 75.3 kWh battery pack and pushes the range to 431 km.
The VinFast VF 7 S costs P1.760 million while the Plus has a price tag of P2.380 million.
VinFast is also offering the low-slung electric SUV with its battery subscription program, which cuts the price to P1.470 million and P1.730 million, respectively.
Prancing pony
No, not the in at Bree — although hats off to those who get the reference. I’m talking about FAW Bestune’s latest offering, which looks to go head-to-head with other small city EVs like the Jetour Ice Cream, BYD Seagull, and VinFast VF 3.
Suited for those wanting to get around the city while minimizing their carbon footprint, the FAW Bestune Pony relies on a single electric motor and a 13.9 kWh battery. With a 170 km range, the cute “everyday galloper” could answer one’s daily transportation needs.
It will set car buyers back some P588,000.
Performance-oriented EV
Most EVs appear to be geared toward efficiency, hence some car buyers tend to see them as boring cars.
That said, BYD looks to change the common misconception about electric cars with the recently launched Seal.
Power for the high-performance unit comes from two electric motors (asynchronous motor at the front, permanent magnet synchronous motor at the rear). The said setup makes 522 horses with 670 Newton-meters and propels the sleek sedan from zero to 100 in only 3.8 seconds.
It uses the brand’s popular Blade battery and has a price tag of P2.548 million.
