What are the two prerequisites for registering motor vehicles online?
The two prerequisites for the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) online vehicle registration are an inspection receipt from a private motor vehicle inspection center and a Compulsory Third Party Liability car insurance. What agency did the LTO team up with to help it in storing, managing, controlling, and maintaining its technology requirements?
To help the agency in storing, managing, controlling, and maintaining its technology requirements, the LTO teamed up with the Department of Information and Communications Technology.“Kami po sa LTO ngayon, isa po sa mga proyekto na isinusulong po namin ay ang digitalization sa aming ahensya. Isa po sa mga ginagawa namin para mapagtibay ang digitalization ay talagang pinapadali namin iyong pag-transact ng mga publiko sa ahensya po namin. (One of the projects we are campaigning for, here at LTO, is the digitalization of our agency. To strengthen our efforts in digitalization, we really make it easy for the public to transact with our agency), ” Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Jose Arturo Tugade was quoted saying in a news briefing last Saturday.
To note, the LTO has recently allowed private motor vehicle owners to renew their registration online.
Under the new online process, vehicle owners only need two requirements when renewing their registration: an inspection receipt from a private motor vehicle inspection center and a Compulsory Third Party Liability car insurance.
Per Tugade, as long as a motor vehicle owner has the two aforementioned prerequisites, he or she can go online to enter the inspection receipt and the certificate of cover, then pay for the transaction, to complete the registration.
As a result, an automobile owner no longer needs to spend an entire day to renew a vehicle registration.
The LTO chief also pointed out that aside from those applying and renewing their licenses as well as those registering their motor vehicles, the agency is looking at how it can help and improve the process for dealers, manufacturers, assemblers, importers, and rebuilders transacting with the LTO.
“Bukod po doon, marami pa tayong mga problema na nakikita sa ating ahensya at iyong mga problema na iyon ay ina-analyze po natin, ini-evaluate natin (Additionally, we have found a handful of issues in our agency that we are currently analyzing, evaluating) and we are trying to see how we can digitalize or computerize the process,” Tugade explained.
The LTO chief said the digitalization projects are on top of its existing programs against fixers and corruption.
The agency has also signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to help the agency in storing, managing, controlling, and maintaining its technology requirements.
