The Philippines is the first country in the ASEAN region that offers the all-new Subaru WRX, the leadership of Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc. (MIPI) said.
Tan Chong International Limited Deputy Chairman and Managing Director Glenn Tan shared the information during a press conference following the official introduction of the two new models.
The executive noted that the reason behind the all-new WRX offerings' immediate availability is the significant number of nameplate's followers locally compared to neighboring countries.
Aside from the Philippines, Subaru is present in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam.
In a separate interview, MIPI marketing manager Uzzi Asuncion told Carmudi Philippines that the company has ample supply of the newly-introduced models since it will get all the allocation for the region.
Further, Tan said that as of the moment, the company is eyeing to sell more WRX sedans compared to its wagon version.
He also shared that with the 30-unit monthly target, he is expecting that sedan will hold a two-third share while the remaining one-third of the volume will be from the other body type.
“My focus right now is to push the sedan first because clearly there’s a lot of enthusiasts who want the sedan and then continue to expand that, and push the wagon after,” Tan explained.
While noting that the company saw little success on wagon offerings in the country, Tan said that the WRX could tell a different story and is hoping that the model could pick up the sales numbers that the Forester XT previously enjoyed.
The Subaru WRX sedan M/T is being retailed at P2.508 million and the WRX sedan CVT, at P2.658 million. On the other hand, the WRX CVT wagon is offered at P2.558 million.
Moreover, the tS — which means “tuned by Subaru Tecnica international” — trims of the WRX sedan and wagon are available via indent orders and are priced at P2.808 million and P2.708 million, respectively.
Both body types are powered by 2.4-liter horizontally-opposed four-cylinder, 16-valve direct-inject engines.
