Honda's famed red badge, which typically adorns only Honda's high-performance models, has officially landed in the Philippines as the very first
Honda Civic Type R units for the Philippine market are finally here.
First revealed at the
2017 Manila International Auto Show in March 2017, the 5th-generation Honda Civic Type R officially
went on sale locally on July 11, 2017 after
Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) announced that it was bringing in
only 100 units of the Civic's high-performance hatchback model. Perhaps because of its iconic history, and that's it's officially available in the Philippines for the very first time, all 100 units alloted for the local market were booked and reserved in just two days despite the vehicle carrying a very hefty price tag of
P2.98 million each.
Only available as a five-door hatchback model, the Civic Type R packs a
turbocharged 2.0-liter, inline-four DOHC i-VTEC engine under the hood that puts out
316 hp and
400 Nm of torque through a
short-throw six-speed manual transmission. It also currently holds the record as the
fastest production front-wheel-drive car on the
Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit with a time of
seven minutes, 48.30 seconds.
The Type R is only available in two colors: Championship White and Rallye Red. As a special treat to the first owners of the highly-anticipated vehicle, HCPI will be holding an exclusive event in early 2018 "once deliveries are completed."
Customers can see the all-new Honda Civic Type R in select Honda Cars dealership starting in the second week of October 2017 and at any dealership throughout the succeeding months.
